Postpartum Doulas

La Aldea

Welcome to La Aldea

"Weaving sisterhood and tenderness, because life blooms when la Aldea shows up"

As the Nigerian proverb says, "It takes a village to raise a child." That's why we are a circle of women committed to unwavering support for mothers in the first steps of their journey through motherhood in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.

Our Mission

In our society, we dedicate much attention and energy to pregnancy and childbirth, but we often overlook one of the most delicate and important moments in a woman's life: the postpartum period. This time is designed to be full of joy and well-being, but it often becomes a challenge due to lack of support and due to loneliness.

At La Aldea (the village), we believe that the postpartum period should be lived in the company of a wise and loving sister who supports you every step of the way through this profound transformation. Our commitment is to ensure that every mother feels accompanied, nurtured, and supported during this crucial stage of life.

Our Approach

A Lighthouse in the Storm

In a world that often forgets the value of this sacred moment, our doulas are lighthouses in the social storm. With them, you will never be alone. We offer deep support and unwavering love, protecting the connection between mother and baby, heart and body.

Comprehensive Care

Our doulas provide emotional support, loving care for the baby, assistance with breastfeeding, help with household tasks, preparation of nutritious meals, and education about baby care and postpartum recovery. All this is done in the comfort of your home, ensuring that you have a joyful, pleasant, and restorative postpartum experience.

Ancestral Wisdom: The Three Golden Opportunities

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the "Three Golden Opportunities" are sacred moments that resonate throughout our lives for 30 years. These opportunities are the First Menstruation, the Postpartum, and the Peri-Menopause. These moments are considered windows for deep healing and revitalizing our essence.

Traditional cultures deeply honor and recognize the monumental effort of the body to conceive life, give birth, and then nurture it. This postpartum recovery time is known in China as "The Sitting Month" or "The Golden Month"; in Korea, as "Saamchilil" (Three-Seven-Days, meaning 3 weeks); in Latin America, we call it "La Cuarentena." Ayurvedic Medicine, wise and ancestral, refers to this period as "42 days for 42 years," emphasizing the connection between the postpartum period and long-term health.

These cultures converge in care focused on warmth, nutrition, and rest, not only to ensure complete recovery for mother and baby but also to preserve the tribe's well-being. In this modern whirlwind, we recover the wise guidance of ancestral traditions for a maternal journey that honors the body, mind, and soul of mother and baby.
